DIY wooden picture frame

When I moved into our home about a month and a half ago, I realized that I was not going to have a space for my T.V. and all of the 147 wires that Directv left me. I really thought about making my own living room console table. (Don't laugh!) I actually bought the supplies and thought seriously, how hard can it be to make something of wood? With almost a missing arm, a crooked top and two glued fingers...I quickly learned that the hype that I built up in my head wasn't going to happen. You ever have one of those days where you think you literally can do anything? That was my day. And I suck. Soooooo, I found this beautiful old wooden farm style piece at Farm Girls sitting neatly under a bunch of random things. It was one of those pieces that was forgotten about with all of the newer stuff in the store. I don't like traditional pieces where everything is streamline and perfect. I like different, unusual, one of a kind pieces that have a ranch or farm feel to them! So I snagged it up. When I purchased it, it had this box off to the right side and it was originally drawers that someone had used for tools. So I dismantled the box and took all of the drawers out, nailed it back into the table, and am now using it to sit my DVD player and modem on. The inside of the box is used right now for a fall floral piece but as soon as I can find some fall throws, I'm going to roll them up and use that as a storage for blankets for the fall/winter!
See, the entire piece serves a purpose!
And let's talk about those baskets. They are from target. Enough said.
With the leftover wood I salvaged from the drawers I didn't use, I made a wooden picture frame. Well, I guess it's not exactly a "frame". More like a wood display piece for photos if you want to get technical.
All of the wood was the same size so I ....
1.) glued three strips of the wood together
2.) attached a burlap bow to the top (Burlap on sale at Michael's for 2.99 for 10 yards!)
3.) I glued a bulldog clip below the burlap ribbon and last but not least...
4.) I clipped a picture.
The end.
That simple.
I didn't really take picture of the process because it is just so simple that you can visualize exactly what to do.
This is the finished product! I love itttttttt.
I used this picture from a Christmas session from a few years back (photo cred to Lindi @thebambini)
And for the second frame I made, I'm using a photo of Hudson's 1st birthday pics I just did but can't share yet! I have a space in the new house where it is a small built in office and the wall is going to be photos of the kids and their artwork.
I love finding a piece that I can utilize entirely. Eventually I would love to pull that console table into my dream farm style kitchen and have it as an island. My mind is always thinking of re purposing furniture.
Xoxo
